Dengue Fever

Patient’s Problem

A 30-year-old male patient, Mr. Ramesh (name replaced), presented to Hospicare with a history of high-grade fever for three days that was not responding to over-the-counter medication. He also complained of severe headache with pain behind the eyes, body aches with joint pain (especially in the knees and elbows), fatigue, and the appearance of a rash on the second day of illness.

Diagnosis

The consulting physician at Hospicare, one of the best MD physicians in Vadodara, conducted a thorough clinical examination and ordered relevant investigations.

Findings included:
  •   Blood tests showed a low platelet count (100,000/µL) and mild elevation of liver enzymes.
  •   Dengue NS1 antigen test and IgM antibodies were positive, confirming Dengue Fever.
  •   No signs of bleeding or fluid accumulation were noted on ultrasound.

Treatment

Based on the diagnosis, a supportive treatment plan was initiated:

  •     Hydration: Oral fluids with electrolytes and IV fluids to maintain balance.
  •     Fever Management: Paracetamol was prescribed for fever and body pain; NSAIDs were avoided due to bleeding risk. This aligns with standard cold and fever treatment in Vadodara
  •     Monitoring: Daily platelet count and blood parameters were closely monitored.
  •     Patient Education: The patient was counseled on the importance of hydration, rest, and mosquito bite prevention.

Result

With timely intervention, Mr. Ramesh’s fever subsided by the fourth day. The rash gradually disappeared, and his platelet count remained stable without dropping to dangerous levels. Within 7–10 days, he made a complete recovery without complications.
